Many BMW vehicles are equipped with a service indicator system, or SIA, that alerts the driver when regular maintenance should be performed, such as an engine oil and filter change. After the service has taken place, the computer should be reset so it can accurately track when the next service interval should be. Most BMW dealer mechanics will reset the SIA system when they perform the maintenance. If you maintain the BMW yourself, you can manually reset the service indicator.
Reset the SIA
Press and hold the odometer reset button on the left of the odometer on the instrument panel. Turn the ignition switch to position I without starting the engine. Release the odometer reset button when “Reset SIA” appears on the instrument panel display. Press and hold the odometer reset button until the word “Reset” flashes on and off. Press and release the odometer reset button to confirm and complete the reset process.
